Hey. This one's just for you.
Not a pitch. Not a lecture. I'm just a woman who has raised sons, is watching grandsons grow, and spent a lifetime paying attention to what men carry — quietly, alone, without asking for help — sitting down to say something she thinks you need to hear.
You are allowed to feel.
All of it. The weight of it. The tenderness of it. The parts you've been told to push down since you were old enough to be told to "man up."
You are allowed to feel, and you are safe here.
What Nobody Told You
From the time most boys are small, the message is clear: be strong. Be tough. Don't cry. Take care of others. Be the rock. Don't need too much. Don't ask for too much. Don't feel too much.
And so you learned. You got good at it. You buried things. You kept going. You showed up for everyone else and told yourself that was enough.
But here's what nobody told you: burying things doesn't make them disappear. It just makes them heavier.
You Already Know You Need Connection
Here's something fascinating from psychology that I think you'll recognize in yourself: research on men and leisure consistently shows that men often seek connection through activities that provide a sense of togetherness without requiring emotional exposure. Gaming is a perfect example — millions of men play online with others, side by side in a shared world, and yet it's fundamentally a solo, internal experience. You're connected, but protected.
That's not weakness. That's adaptation. You found a way to be near people without having to be vulnerable. Because vulnerability was never made to feel safe for you.
Writing with Wela is different. It's a space where you don't have to perform anything. You don't have to be funny or strong or have it together. You just have to be willing to receive something that was written with you in mind.
That's it. That's the whole ask.
Your Partner Wants to See You
I'll say something that might surprise you: the women in your life — your partner, your mother, your daughter — they don't want you to be a rock. They want to see you. The real you. The one who gets moved by things. The one who cares deeply even when he doesn't say it.
You know that rom-com your wife keeps suggesting? Watch it with her. Not because it's your favorite genre — but because sitting next to her and letting yourself feel something together is one of the most quietly powerful things you can do for your relationship. She will not think less of you. She will love you more for it than you know.
Emotion is not the opposite of strength. It is strength — the kind that takes real courage.
This Is Your Safe Space
At Writing with Wela, nobody is going to tell you that you're too sensitive. Nobody is going to make you feel soft for wanting to be known. Nobody is going to bully you for having a heart.
Every letter I write is an act of saying: you matter. You are seen. You are worth the time it takes to do this right.
And you are. You always have been.
So if you've been wondering whether this is for you — it is. It was always for you.
Welcome home.
With love and zero judgment,
Wela 🖊️
